Prick Tunes: Sufjan Stevens "Decatur, or, Round of Applause for Your Stepmother!"

Staying tangentially on topic for the day, here is what might be my favorite song from one of my favorite albums of the last decade. When working with a punk rock friend in the back of house at a place that I shall not mention, he heard the lyric
Stephen A. Douglas was a great debater,
Abraham Lincoln was The Great Emancipator
and instantly asked what the fuck we were listening to. There was no enthusiasm in his voice, just incredulity at having heard the words "Abraham Lincoln was The Great Emancipator" in song. A few short months later, we were sitting next to each other in $50 seats at a Sufjan concert, after the boundless charm of the album and the roughly 50 times I played it beat down the door into his heart.

This one's for you, Lorenzo, wherever you are.
